RJE has been working with WMC for some time on the optimisation and automation of the mine surface ventilation system. Detailed studies have been performed analysing maintenance costs, operational costs and downtime of the system. The findings have led to the initiation of a complete upgrade of the system with a projected budget of over $2m with a payback period of less than 2 years.
RJE has begun the roll out of the automated ventilation control system with the installation and commissioning of VVVF Drive technology on the two larger ventilation drives. The benefits of the remote SCADA control are already evident as is the reduced power usage.
